Brief History of the Department:
The science programme at Prithvi Narayan Campus began in 2019 BS with five students, but it was discontinued the same year. It was restarted in 2024 BS with ten students in the newly built Science Building (constructed in 2022 BS with government support).
The Science Laboratory was established in 2024 BS with UNESCO support, and the B.Sc. programme began in 2044 BS. The M.Sc. programme in Physics was introduced in 2067 BS. At present, the department runs both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, with about 300 students currently enrolled. In collaboration with various national and international research institutions, the faculty also possess the capacity to supervise Ph.D. students, fostering advanced research and academic development.
In collaboration with the Nepal Physical Society – Gandaki Chapter, the department has been publishing its annual journal The Himalayan Physics since 2009, and regularly organizes seminars, workshops, and conferences to promote academic and research activities.
Message from the Head of the Department
It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Physics at Prithvi Narayan Campus, Tribhuvan University, Pokhara. Since its humble beginning in 2019 BS, the department has evolved into one of the leading centers of science education in the region, offering both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes in Physics.
Over the years, the department has continuously strived for academic excellence by fostering quality teaching, research, and innovation. With well-equipped laboratories, a dedicated team of faculty members, and an encouraging learning environment, we aim to inspire students to explore the fascinating world of physics and its applications in science and technology.
The department also actively promotes research culture through the publication of its annual journal, The Himalayan Physics, and by organizing seminars, workshops, and conferences in collaboration with the Nepal Physical Society – Western Regional Chapter and other institutions.
We remain committed to advancing scientific understanding, nurturing critical thinking, and preparing our students to contribute meaningfully to society through physics education and research.
I warmly invite students, researchers, and collaborators to engage with us and be part of our academic journey.
